Communications Studies at the IfK

The Institute for Communications Studies at the Westphalian Wilhelms-University of Münster is the oldest institute for journalism and communication sciences of the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia, and the second oldest in Germany. We offer a diversified range of studies and research programmes.

Profile

Our scientific agenda spans the communication sciences as such, and adheres to an interdisciplinary approach. It researches the conditions, structures, functions and effects of the media in their historic development as well as in our contemporary modern societies. Media- and communication driven aspects of the public, and the social field of the individual are reseached with regards to their development by use of media and communication. The students‘ skills at the IfK are trained in the follwoing fields of media production, use and analysis:

Facilities at the IfK

The IfK holds a comprehensive library of the communications sciences, a press archive, a training editorial office, radio and TV studio and a CIP-pool.
