10. Oktober 2008: Prof. Strutwolf visits Pope Benedict XVI.

Pope Benedict XVI received a delegation of the German Bible Society/Stuttgart a member of which Prof. Dr. Holger Strutwolf, director of the Münster Institute for New Testament Textual Research was. The private audience took place during the 12th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops in Rome.

The chairman of the German Bible Society, Bishop em. Dr. Walter Klaiber, presented a slipcase to the Pope containing the editions of the original text of the bible, i.e. the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia and the Novum Testamentum Graece (edited by the Münster Institute), and the Septuagint. The 250 members of the synod got the slipcase too.

Furthermore Prof. Strutwolf presented the first volume of the Editio Critica maior, containing the Catholic Letters. The Editio Critica Maior, based on an exhaustive study of the entire manuscript tradition preserved, is compiled by the Institute for New Testament Textual Research. Benedict was very interested and remembered the Institute and its founder Kurt Aland from the time he taught as a professor in Münster.

The Münster Colloquium on the textual history of the New Testament was held 3-6 August 2008.
