A critical edition of an Arabic translation of the four Gospels by the Coptic writer al-Asʿad ibn al-ʿAssāl

  • Dr. Samuel Moawad
The project aims to edit the Arabic translation of the four gospels by the Coptic author al-Asʿad ibn al-Aʿssāl. The text has been translated from Bohairic Coptic in 1253 CE. Moreover, the translation offers variants in other older Arabic translations from Greek and Syriac. The whole work as well as every gospel is furnished with an introduction. Al-Asʿad ibn al-ʿAssāl ends his work with a list of abbreviations, an explanation of his working method and the reasons for which he made this translation.
